Our Story

Our Haven in the Hills
Watawala Tea Plantation Bungalow is our family’s historic retreat in Sri Lanka’s tea country. Built in the 1870s as a British planter’s residence, it has been carefully preserved over generations — a place where time slows and the landscape takes centre stage.
Wake to mist drifting across emerald tea fields and the quiet rhythm of the hills. Spend your days exploring the surrounding countryside or relaxing in its gracious, light-filled spaces, where high ceilings and wide verandahs reflect a bygone era.
This is not simply a stay in the hills — it is a home with history, shared with you. Thoughtfully cared for and deeply rooted in place, Watawala offers a sense of calm, privacy, and timeless charm

The Tea Factory Experience
Step inside a working tea factory and uncover the fascinating journey of Ceylon Tea, from leaf to cup. Guests can observe freshly plucked tea
leaves as they move through each stage of processing — withering, rolling, fermenting, drying, and sorting — all essential steps in crafting Sri Lanka’s world-renowned tea. Expert tea makers guide visitors through the different grades and flavor profiles, offering insight into the subtle art of tea production. The experience concludes with a freshly brewed cup, allowing guests to savor the rich aroma and heritage infused in every sip.
